Himali Nanayakkara

I was born and bread in Sri Lanka and lived in Neukirchen--Vluyn, Germany, close to Düsseldorf, for the past 17 years.Creating art has been part of my life as long as I can remember.My journey towards art continues through the study of textile-design.Today I have a background in textile design allowing the ability to mix both art and design.I create in acrylic and pastel abstracts, portraits and landscapes.

Art is my joy and passion in life! It is second nature to me where I feel most comfortable and at ease. I enjoy and embrace every minute I spend with a paintbrush in my hand.My work has been influenced by my upbringing in a vibrant and colourful culture and natural beauty of Sri Lanka combined with my background in textile design.Through my paintings ,I try to bring the ordinary world on to the canvas through my eyes.Art allows me to take great joy in finding beauty in simple things, observing people, forms and objects. I study how these emotions, colors, shapes and light interact with eachother and then bring that onto canvas .Nature, flowers. textile patterns, fashion, faces and cultural influences often inspire my work.
