Aidan Weichard

Aidan Weichard (b. 1986, Gembrook, Australia) is a Gippsland-based artist, whose creative process is ever-evolving, with the constant being his subject matter. Native Australian flora and fauna are commonly depicted in his works and are symbolic of his affection toward the Australian landscape. Growing up in the hills amidst the rainforest and all its inhabitants, his love for wildlife’s incredible energy is something that’s been subconsciously ticking away in his mind since he was young. He has always drawn ever since he can remember and somehow his work always came out in the form of animals - a passion that has stuck!

Together with Aidan’s wife, children, Australian Shepherds, horses and chickens, he now call a little hobby farm tucked away on the cusp of Gippsland home. In this space, he is surrounded by what constantly inspires Aidan – his beautiful animals and the stunning Gippsland region.

Aidan has been painting professionally for the last 10 years, with 5 of them as a full-time artist. He has refined his style over time, and is now proudly selling his work to wonderful collectors all over the world and running solo exhibitions across the country.

With Aidan’s upbringing surrounded by the Gembrook bushlands and now living amongst the vast rolling hills of Gippsland, he has developed a spiritual connection with the land and its animal inhabitants, both of which have become integral not only to his creative practice, but to his personal identity. As well as the native wildlife, Aidan’s practice focuses on industrious farm animals, livestock and working dogs – subjects that have consistently stood out to him for their stoic, hardworking and loyal nature.
Aidan’s biggest inspiration, however, are his two Australian Shepherds - Disney and Faloo. It’s their endless affection and loyalty that amazes Aidan everyday, there is never a dull moment around here. But, Aidan really finds brilliance in all animals, whether it be his noisy chickens, horses or the neighbour’s cows, he has a huge admiration for their unmistakable characteristics and unique markings, no matter the species.
“Just being in the presence of animals has a dramatic proven positive physiological and psychological effect on us and my art tries to explore this using colour and texture.”
