Ana Mendez

Ana Mendez is an Uruguayan and Spanish artist. She currently lives in Madrid.

To Talk about the work of Ana Mendez is to talk about the content of magical, fanatastic and mythological elements, perceived by the characters in the picture as part of the norm. The existence of magical elements is never explained. It is the presence of the sensory as part of the perception of reality. Ana Mendez works with the notion of time in her work, but this is perceived as cyclical, not linear, as in some philosophical traditions. The artist distorts the notion of time for the present and the past is repeated and intermingle. The simple transformation of the ordinary and every day in an experience that includes supernatural or fantastic experiences, to remind us of the complexity of human nature.

She receives several prizes and invitations to show her work in Latin America, the USA, and Europe. Her pieces are at National Visual Arts, Montevideo, Uruguay. Batuz Foundation Scholarship Award, Sachsen, Germany. Painting competition organized by the Bank of the Province of Buenos Aires at the fair ART BA. She represented Uruguay in Biennial of Cordoba, Argentina.
