Being contemporary lies in under- standing the present without ever forgetting the past, building the future with capacity for innovation. Current art must know how to join appearance and material. The extra- ordinary technological progress of the last decades cannot have only a functional use, but enters into the daily artistic practice, offering unfo- reseeable potential and opportunities for expression.
Andrea Chisesi is an artist who lives his time, which is today's time. He has refined sensibility and trained eye to decline the present by reading the past. He contaminates, merges images and techniques. He reads the story and tells it in his way. By his fusion between pictorial techniques and photographic image, Andrea Chisesi develops a seductive and original narrative. It is as if art history, the artistic capital of the past, can be reread by transferring it to the current urban contexts, in today's visual languages.
This is how Andrea Chisesi's artworks are born, where the origin is in myth, in fable, in tale. But at the same time the myth is the driving force of events that drag on over time until today. Andrea Chisesi was born in Rome in 1972, but very soon he and his family moved to Milan, where he attended Art School and the Politec- nico di Milano.
In 1998 he opened his own studio "Andrea Chisesi photografer" at Porta Venezia in Milan and although his main focus was on photography, he never stopped painting and here he began to experiment with the technique he himself defined as "fusion" between painting and pho- tography.
From 1998 to 2008, the artist’s main activity was portrait photography. His photos have been published in the most prestigious magazines, e.g. Vogue, Vanity fair, Max, Rolling Stone. Furthermore, he photo- graphed actors, writers and world-fa- mous musicians, such as Harvey Keitel, Robbie Wiliams, Ken Follet, Steven Tyler and many many more in his studio and on movie sets.
Despite his achievements in the field of photography, in 2008 he opened his own painting studio in via Piranesi in Milan. “Fusions” and “Fireworks” were his two paths and he pursued them in parallel. The first path requires rigo- rous planning. The canvas gets prepa- red pictorially to accommodate the photograph, before it continues to be painted.
The second one, on the contrary, gives free rein to that instinct and the gesture that the...
