Ann Barbara Smith

I live and work in South West London. My passion is for colour and textiles. I have always painted, experimented with making things and played creatively. I adore using fabric because of the way it holds and reflects colour. Textiles are versatile and allow for the use of many experimental processes which are fascinating. I am interested in subtle perception of tactile qualities in my work. I experiment with many techniques of applying colour and texture in layers to achieve a complex surface. I work in an intuitive and abstract way. The result of this work is often about themes of movement, energy and elements. I love to garden and I have a view of it from my studio. The changing colours, weather and patterns are a constant source of inspiration.

I have a BA Hons in the design of carpets and related textiles from Kidderminster College 1984

2000- 2014 participated in group exhibitions of 4 by 4 Textile Artists at Menier Gallery, London and The Mall Galleries London, Alexander Palace, London
1996- 2015 group exhibitions Phoenix Contemporary Textiles Group .
2017- 2018 group exhibitions at Committed to Cloth, Surrey
2018- Short listed for Fine Art Quilt Masters at Festival of Quilts Birmingham NEC
