Ann Robinson

I am a self taught artist.
I was born in Göteborg in 1961 . My mother is Swedish, and my father is half British, half French.
I grew up and studied in Brussels, and moved to Paris in 1989.

In my teens I was particularly interested in horses and drawing. I also enjoyed and practiced various forms of textile craft.
I have always loved nature, water, and landscapes. Those elements were to become the main source of my inspiration a few years later.

While studying French, German and English at university, I also developed a strong interest in art, and in painting particularly, avidly visiting museums and exhibitions.
Discovering the work of Claude Monet and
Gustav Klimt in the flesh made a strong impression on me and triggered my desire to start playing with colour rather than pencil.

Soon after graduating as a translator I had a succession of exhibitions and chose to devote myself to painting.

I have been painting for a long time and explored the world of colour in a variety of ways before turning to collage in 2012.

All my collages are made of used Paris metro tickets. My attraction for that small rectangle of strong white paper goes back a long way.
When I started dying them and handling them in many different ways I saw that I had found "my thing".
For me, metro tickets are the ideal medium to translate everything that I have ever wanted to say in my work. They embody the idea of movement in space...
