Ann Witters was born in Lommel, Belgium in 1968. She grew up there and went to Antwerp to study photography when she was 18. She lived there for many years and later moved to London (England). Currently she's living in Neerpelt close to her roots. Artists who inspired her are Kurt Schwitters, Robert Rauschenberg, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Duane Michaels, Wolfgang Tillmans,Gerhard Richter, Daniel Spourri, etc... In her collages and scuptures, Ann combines painting & drawing with found objects, text, fabric and pictures from newspapers & magazines. Her paintings are mostly abstract and colourful, containing a few figurative elements while her photographs show interesting details of the world around her.
Ann studied photography (BA) at Karel de Grote Hogeschool, Antwerp. After this she went on studying painting at the academy of Berchem & Mol and attended many parttime courses in collage, painting and creative sculpture at The Mary Ward Centre and Morley
College in London (England).
