Apoena Fousek has a 30-year-journey of fierce production that covers drawings, paintwork and visual signs, rooted in graphic design (his academic background). He has organized solo exhibitions and attended group exhibitions in Brazil and overseas. In 2011, his retrospective exhibition “Dos 3 aos 100”, held at CAIXA Cultural Brasília, presented drawings, objects and paintings from three to current 37 years of age, closing a cycle in the artist’s career. From this moment, Apoena “went deep” into the self-knowledge process, and started seeking the purest essence in order to go beyond his new production. Such period lasted longer than expected (2012 to 2017), and Apoena relied on extensive studies on the Zen method, experiencing hours of daily meditation and reaching the power of synthesis in his relationship with nature (in particular, the sea) and the Essentialism as a lifestyle.

Drawings represent a crucial role for Apoena’s life and education. This relation has arisen from his need to communicate with the world. Since he had been a child of separated parents, his childhood was full of travels and journeys.
