Jungle Bird, 20 Letters to September

“Jungle Bird, 20 Letters to September” is a multi-layered trace monotype series on handmade Washi paper. It's inspired by a long slow summer that the artist spent traveling in Costa Rica after she lost her mother to cancer. Much of the wording on the art has been pulled from journal entries during the trip or snippets of overheard conversation while traveling. The artist sees each piece as a visual poem that investigates grief, beauty, resiliency, and the magic that is often found at the heart of suffering. The rough and raw monotype aesthetic was chosen to reflect the raw, imperfect emotion felt by the artist.
