Alex Chavez (Taos): The deathly figure paintings of Alex Chavez are inspired by the artist’s Mexican heritage and Central America’s Day of the Dead festivities. His expressionist figures, painted with bravado brushwork and bold color, reveal skeletal bodies and painted faces that illuminate death while celebrating life. “My goal is to create images of death that a person can hang on their wall and live with as a reminder to go out and live a life that they will ultimately be proud of,” said Chavez in a 2018 interview with Art Motif Magazine.
