Soul of the city

In this project, Sophie Roy explores the notions of movement, roots and permanence. Cities evoke the flow and perpetual movement: traffic, construction, birth, death, immigration. At the same time, a city provides its inhabitants various forms of anchorages such as history, heritage, neighborhoods, cafes, parks and institutions. Unlike a photographic snapshot that captures and freezes a precise moment in time, photomontage allows Sophie Roy to express a vision of life that is dynamic and made of changes, movements and transformations. Unlike the typical “postcard”, the representation of the city in this series takes us beyond the fragmented and frozen vision that we sometimes have of the world around us.
