Sophie Wang was born in Hubei, China, in 1966. She began studying painting in her early teens and continually explored various new techniques and styles, with a special passion for landscapes and birds-and-flowers, capturing the beauty of nature. Every brushstroke reflects her love and longing for the world. Her hometown, with its picturesque mountains and lakes, is rich in cultural heritage and has greatly influenced her art. Initially, she was trained in sketching, a practice she pursued for seven or eight years, after which she studied watercolor and traditional Chinese painting. As times changed, Sophie integrated her love of art into her career, creating craftwork. She developed a technique of carving on flat glass, producing lifelike representations of flowers and animals that have a three-dimensional effect. Over the years, she experimented with various art forms, from the heaviness of oil painting to the lightness of cotton paintings, and the intricacy of shell carvings. Each new attempt allowed her to experience the endless charm of art. In recent years, Sophie encountered Chinese straw painting, a form of intangible cultural heritage known for its bright luster, excellent decorative effects, and strong artistic appeal. The figures, flowers, and animals depicted in straw paintings are vivid and lifelike, as if they could walk right out of the frame, offering viewers a sense of rustic elegance and noble beauty. She is committed to blending modern art with traditional styles, using straw as her brush to breathe new life into this traditional art form.
