A NEW Translation Collage

A Visual transcription of the Qur'an using repetition to anchor itself to the text where i found poignant or interesting. e.g. In the quran 32 times it says that god invented and creates ships for people, in response to this I populated the word with exactly 32 ships. Such repetitions are exact and fill the piece. I was out shopping when i saw a bright red sticker worn on a pile of Qur'ans that read "A NEW Translation!" I thought it odd how people could change or remake a holy book. I worked through this piece as a learning exercise. Because of the conversation in this time about the influence of islam I felt ignorant and held no basis for any opinion and held a structureless agnosticism about the faith. I always felt that creating work on a subject creates an intimate understanding of the subject (hopefully), and that what i feel has been achieved in this piece.
