Amerika is a mixed media painting about the racial hatred and influence of fascist groups injected into American politics this year. Words and actions matter, the rise of white nationalist groups with the failure of President Trump to call them out for their vile statements is deeply troubling. The 1960's image of white supremacists is a nod to Nazi Germany and a reminder to stand up to fight for our Democracy. The upside down flag, a sign of distress, is a photo I took of my grandfather's silk flag given to him when he arrived in this country from Poland. A reminder we are all Americans. The Black Lives Matter rallies have been attended by people of all genders, races and cultures. It is a testament to the outrage we share at the alarming racism that continues to be inflicted on people of color. We are standing up to a government unwilling to speak out against hate and violence towards black people.
