About The Artwork

My Aunt was single. She looked after us as our second Mom. I was holding her hand when she passed away by cancer, at her fifty-three years old. She worked as an attorney in her last decade. However, during the seventies and eighties she was proceeding my Grandma’s business of making and trading woolens in a small shop in front of Sai Gon market (Ben Thanh market nowadays). When Chinese wools were popular here, she closed the business. These decade-old buttons were among the remaining stocks. About six years ago, I was accidentally triggered by an on-going artwork and cried uncontrollably. I couldn’t believe I had seen that traumatic last moment with my Aunt clearly in my mind over ten years since she passed away. Now, I felt grateful while working with these buttons in the cosy house where we used to live together.

A Vietnamese independent visual artist based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My career started off as a commercial designer after I accomplished a major in Industrial Arts/Ceramic Art in Vietnam in 2005. After a period of postgraduate study in Japan (2011-2017), I returned to Vietnam and established my atelier. My practice is evolving towards the physical characteristics of visual and tactile sensation through the properties of materials. My works are expanded from ceramics to mixed-media surfaces. With an expectation of being able to extensively propose an art appreciation to even the visually impaired people, I considers the integration of tactile interpretation onto my visual artworks as an ‘inclusiveness’; and it is channeling my study into an investigation of the relationship between the ‘inclusive’ and the ‘exclusive’ aspect within a context of contemporary society.
