One of the most unprecedented and historic post-war photographs, with the same name as Gustav Klint's 1908 work, “The kiss”, taken in Times Square in NY by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt in 1945, depicts a passionate kiss between a sailor and a nurse and became an icon of romanticism across the world. The image was published in a Life photo section showing the US victory celebrations. After publication, the photo quickly became famous, and the mystery about who the couple was began. As you can see, neither of their faces is clear in the photograph. After the repercussion of the photo, many people began to question who the photographed couple was. Later, it was discovered that the couple did not know each other, and that the kiss given by the sailor was an act of excitement and celebration, despite not knowing the nurse. The nurse at the time said: “The man was very strong. I wasn't kissing him, he was kissing me ”. Which, in today's clear terms, is harassment, something little talked about at the time. Greta says that she did not see the act as harassment, just remembering it as the day of a "happy event". In “Behind the kiss”, 2020, Jessica Diskin this issue that lies behind the “romantic” kiss comes up, showing the fight for women's rights, and against the culture of rape.
