About The Artwork

These boots recently turned 27 and now they are on a well-deserved retirement. They walked with me for nearly three decades, during the long night and days at work. They never failed to hold me up and adjust to the changing size of my feet. They made my restless hours more comfortable. They waited every day at the studio door for me to step inside. When I took them off after hours, they seemed exhausted and happy, like me. They were shiny black when I found them, never used, in their original box. It said: genuine leather. I took them without trying them. That day, I had casually stopped in a tiny village market. The kiosks were selling any kind of stuff. But these boots were my only purchase. As soon as I got home, I put them on. They fitted me perfectly. Day after day, year after year, they got dirtier and more expressive in my eyes. Now I look at them and read chapters of stories. My shoes are still beautiful, humble, and authoritative. They have aged with me. How could I throw away such a gift of faithful friendship? Honestly, I couldn't.

My life began in Italy, in a small town nestled between the sea and the mountains. "Teate Degli Abruzzi", meaning, the "Land of Shepherds", is a wild and archaic territory where I spent most of my youth in close contact with the surrounding nature. My parents always told me that I began creating before I started talking. Indeed, some of my earliest memories are of days spent entirely gathering, reimagining, and crafting life from discarded things. Over the years, I have utilized the unique nature and dynamics of a multitude of materials – whether organic, inorganic, or synthetic – morphing them into new imagery and imbuing them with a new identity. Materials speak to me aloud. Despite their imperfections, rawness, and precariousness, they contain forces beyond our control in a continuous fluctuation between ephemerality and resilience. To this day, exploring the surroundings and gathering whatever inspires me is still the core of my practice. My process is led by a feeling of the transience of life which I strive to rehabilitate into a timeless dimension. I have exhibited extensively in Italy, Europe, and the US with critical acclaim since 1990. I've been living in the United States since 2015 working with numerous galleries across the country. I continue to investigate mixed media techniques as vehicles to embody my experiences and my vision of life.
