Collage on paper. Inspired by Buddha and the today's passion about meditation and awareness. The photos of collage in progress are available here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/DS-Collages-466989710002284/photos/?tab=album&album_id=467050186662903 Collage is an exquisite technique using magazine paper, scissors & glue. After drawing the image, instead of painting with a brush, the 'colors' are cut out of magazines and glued onto a paper. The variety and use of the color and the density of the shade I try to attain demands intense selection, review, imagination and tremendous attention to detail. Creating images with paper is a tedious task - each collage takes a minimum of 6 months to produce. The completed work is similar to an impressionistic painting, but with greater visual impact because of the depth of the collage.

I have been asked a million times why I like the art of collage. Here is the reason: I am skilful at various painting techniques, however, my true passion is collage as it is a very labour-intensive and challenging process. It is also very inspirational as the end result is unknown during the creation itself. First, I do a sketch with a pencil and do not know which colours I will use and who will be the characters of my work. The background and ideas come later when i look through the magazines and find beautiful colours and interesting details. Creating a collage is, in a way, similar to writing a poem. When a poet writes verses s/he looks for a rhyme for each line, s/he doesn’t know in advance which rhymes will come on his/her mind. Sometimes the rhyme is perfect and exact. At other times a new born rhyme is very beautiful but doesn’t seem to fit in a story, so the poet adjusts a poem slightly. Therefore the rhyme at the end of every line is unpredictable and so is the end of the poem. It is the same with the collage, i never know at the beginning if the girl i have drawn will be a princess, or a gypsy, or a geisha, or a shadow, it all depends on a chance of little beautiful detail i will find in a magazine or an unusual colour combination i will see. Such open end result keeps inspiration intense and the creation process very pleasurable. It makes me dream and imagine - both are amazing vibes. Once the collage is completed, it is very interesting to look at it and trace the details of the paper cuts and how they all merge together to create an illusion of a painting. So i am an artist who like the art of collage because i am a poet as much.
