Buttercup Psyche Collage

Buttercup Psyche was inspired by long walks through the countryside, the sun leaning against the rivers, standing on the edges of the hill tops staring straight into the pearly gates. It is created as the regalia of goddess and flowers. Of rays of light shining through a Rococco palace, lined in mirrors and ethereal frames. The myth, wrought in The Golden Ass /Metamorphoses of Psyche's journey, and the many textures which passed through her mind, hands and beneath her feet on the journey to Theatro Deodrum. Visions of the future, interlaced with golden objets trouve and rustic charm. I wish the viewers to examine the many found objects from which the artwork is constructed, and examine what they are also made of; how the noumenal realm constructs the psyche from a 1,001 sources, each with its unique patina, and significance. Some of these influences are sought, some are bold, some merely blend in mysterious swathes, dark seas and fields of flowers, tacit influence. The emphasis is placed on symbolism and autonomy, on the many thousands of atoms which construct the form, where they were before, where they will be next, and their ability to make a statement, to touch and to reflect. As the dress has also been made using recycled materials a topic is also raised surrounding sustainability in the fashion and textile industry, examining the provenance of materials on a global basis. Where did the fabric come from? The emphasis is placed upon prioritising parity of wellbeing, and artisinal quality on a global basis, and a traceable, transparent supply chain free of exploitation.
