About The Artwork

I am painting and writing about a surreal lifetime which never did as it was told, nor follow the regular rules of a conventional timeline which had been chosen for it. I have used archetypal and personal symbols and I hope that viewers will be able to resonate at some level with what I've done here. This is has been created by me for myself; it's a celebration of how I fought and survived human demons and monsters and that I will never go out subdued. I chose to make a mixed media collage because I want to make a loud statement of my truth instead of pretty landscapes that feature roads that go to nowhere and are all fenced in. All the materials I've used like the broken butterflies and dragonfly, and raven feathers were just that - found on the radiator grilles of vehicles, feathers left for me by visiting crows and ravens, excluding the gold earrings which come from my personal collection. Nothing was hurt or destroyed making this artwork, nor I have consciously followed any particular school in art history or thought.

I was born in South Africa and then studied for at Rhodes University under professor Brian Bradshaw. I lived in Northwestern British Columbia, Canada for 9 years. and during that time opened an art gallery (with gift shop), and a working studio where I painted and taught people to do the same. Although being a landscape painter using pastel has been a lifelong love, I now explore other media in an effort to express my strong thoughts and emotions\ . This has been a voyage of discovery where I have found new dimensions I was only able to dream of in the past. Please note that ALL of my images (C.N.
