This colorful creation emerged as a result of a series of otherwise unrelated events. I was in a new city (Leipzig). Having arrived in the dead of winter, painting from my defunct factory studio was limited to short days of light. I would squeeze what I could from each day. Because I did not know anyone, I took breaks in a used bookstore I discovered a few floors down from where I was painting. It was there I found a first edition copy of Goethe's, Faust that was printed in Leipzig not long after Goethe's had moved away from the city. Using one of the five wood frames left in an industrial hallway, I began thinking about ways to mix literature with art. The result is this painting... In it, Goethe's story is visible through the various shades and shapes of color. It was featured in Mixed Media: paper (1st --German) edition of Goethe's, Faust, printed in Leipzig) Acrylic -- on found wood frame (easy to hang)

Jeanette Lamb works in historical collage. Drawing from a wide selection of resources, she combines literature, light, traditional mediums & digital technologies in an attempt to solicit questions about what it is to see, to communicate, to relay the experiences of life to another. Her works most often draw inspiration from a spattering of historical & present contexts. Compositions are frequently layered with historical documents -- musical scores dating from 1900’s. The fragments are surrounded by colors and imagery from the 20th-century that solicit awareness of political upheaval and its impact on the individual. She has been a member of the long-running, prestigious German women’s art collective, GEDOK. Her works have been published in Leipzig Zeitgeist (2012), University of Iowa The Hunger (Visual Verse, 2016) Prose, Duende (Godard College, 2015), Why Hasn't JB Already Disappeared (Delere Press, 2017), among others.
