This drawing/collage includes a very large number of pieces of paper, all made with my own hand. It shows a human figure standing and fragmented in a room with hardwood floors, at certain points continuous with that room. The piece makes a statement about our essential lack of coherence, our becoming rather than our existence. All materials including glue are archival and acid-free; it is in the very nature of this work that the pieces do not blend smoothly one into another, but stand out as obvious disjunctive breaks. Some areas are rippled; in particular, the paper that comprises the crotch area has wrinkles as a crotch does. Nevertheless, all pieces are well-attached and the piece is stable and solid. There is a one-inch white margin that is NOT reflected in the size of the artwork. The heavy paper is one inch larger on all sides; this makes it possible to mat the paper without covering any of the art. The white border is intended to be covered by a mat.
