Art Description

Collage: Paper, Paint, Ink on Paper, Plastic.

Grandma's Hands is a mixed media artwork. I created it using collage and acrylic paint on card. I'm fascinated by identity and how it changes as we age. How we mask it our identities to fit in with others expectations.

I think of it as an anti-portrait. All the features that would make a person recognisable are gone. Yet is still resolutely human.

I used a mixture of gold and white paint applied in layers of dots.

The piece is inspired by the son Grandma's Hands, it was written by Bill Withers but my favourite version is by Barbara Streisand. I'm fascinated by the expressive nature of hands and how they can express our personality and life experiences.
