About The Artwork

This work reminds me of my childhood by referring to the umbanda shop of my father, popular toys that I and my brothers played, besides honoring an artist that I have aesthetic affinities.

Dumas: a Pop Art icon on ABC Dumas, one of the Brazilian Pop Art icons, chose the city of São Bernardo do Campo to settle and produce works which combine several techniques and elements from his hometown Belém do Pará, where he was born in 1958 and spent his childhood. Besides the cosmopolitan poetry of Bethlehem, Dumas also received many family influences. His grandparents owned bookstore and his father had a printing office, a stationery and a religious goods store. It was in these spaces populated by papers, inks, prints and images that Dumas created a style, revealing their concerns mixed with the everyday universe. For him, art is mining, collecting pieces, souvenirs and objects discarded by civilization to translate them into various dimensions. By seizing these fragments of "non-noble" materials such as can openers, bottle caps and other discarded debris, Dumas compose works, contrasting elements which can be found from Belém do Pará to the Far East, using various techniques, materials and languages that interact with each other.
