Life Is All Around You Collage

We spend most of our waking day in front of some sort of digital screen. It's become such a normal part of our life, that we sometimes forget what life was like before wifi and smart phones. As much as I appreciate what technology has provided me, I also feel an overwhelming pull to get away from the machines, and find out what life has to offer beyond the binary world. My son recently gave me a not-so subtle reminder about how I was living my life. As I was walking him to school, checking my Instagram and Snapchat updates, I had my head down, and wasn't paying attention to what was important—him. He grabbed my hand, looked me dead in the eye and said, "Maybe you should watch where you're going instead of looking down at your phone." Out of the mouths of babes, as they say, and I must admit, he was smarter than me in that moment. I told him he was right, and I put my phone in my pocket to finish our short time together before he went into class. On the way home, I spent my time enjoying listening to some music, but looking around at the world around me. The flowers are in bloom, the sky is a beautiful shade of blue, and the air is bright and clean. Why on earth would the appeal of an iPhone be more important than this?
