"Memento Mori" takes inspiration from sixteenth century baroque vanitates’ iconography, developing the main theme of transience of life in a contemporary (queer) context. Characteristic elements of the genre, like flowers and skulls in their shapes and their allegory create new connections with the homoerotic explicit material in a back-and-forth conversation through collage. All the material used - including the canvas - is found material, following the artist's manifesto where "to print and/or buy magazines, books, etc. containing images is not allowed". Even though it is not the first work developing this theme, it is the first Memento Mori in contained dimensions and the first one to be finished of the ongoing series. Not framed - could be hung straight-away. Warning - erection has been censored. One-of-a-kind artwork signed on the back.

Romeo Madonna (London, 1987) is a collage artist based in Florence where he currently lives and works. A self-taught visual artist, collage - both digital and analog - represents his favorite means of expression, the investigative method of his research and the synthesis of the philosophy underlying his artistic practice. A film student at the Roma Tre University with the aim of becoming a screenwriter, he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti because he was obsessed with engraving and printing techniques. His professional experiences in the field of mixology and luxury retail contributed significantly to defining the traits and themes of his artistic identity, fusing a digital approach with traditional techniques. Visions of time, beauty, identity and death are recurring themes in his works.
