About The Artwork

The Monarch is the state insect of Minnesota where I now live and work. I have been dreaming about grids of butterflies, in recent months, following the passing of my father-in-law. 'Robert' Bellairs loved his garden and the different species (South African) he shared with me when I visited him, were beautiful. The 'grid' is a dominant feature in my work and this time, it takes a decorative slant. The papers have been collected over the last year as I have started work in collage and on my 'Window of Heaven' project. My favorite papers are hand-cut and placed to make this series of three Monarch works: Femme, Homme and Monarch (neutral). Each butterfly in the drawing is different, although the grid is uniform. Drawn on highest quality Strathmore paper. Original drawing will be signed by the artist before dispatch. This image shows some fluxuation in background color due to the size of the original. Strathmore paper is a uniform off-white.
