The motivation for creating this surreal artwork stemmed from a profound desire to explore the depths of the human psyche and the complex interplay of emotions, desires, and fears within us all. This piece is a visual representation of the artist's fascination with the subconscious and the myriad feelings that often lurk beneath the surface. The use of abstract body parts, like eyes, mouths, and tentacles, in a haphazard and random arrangement reflects the chaotic nature of our inner thoughts and the complexity of the human experience. The artist sought to capture the paradoxical beauty in this disarray, highlighting that our inner worlds are not always linear, orderly, or predictable. The choice of colors, predominantly red, blue, and pink, is significant. Red symbolizes the intensity of emotion and desire, while blue signifies a sense of calm and introspection. Pink bridges the gap between the two, representing the delicate balance between our emotional and rational selves. These colors harmoniously merge and clash, mirroring the inner emotional turmoil and harmony that coexist within each individual. The beige background offers a striking contrast to the vibrant body parts. It symbolizes the mundane and everyday aspects of life, providing context to the chaos and vibrancy of the creature or object. This contrast invites viewers to ponder the complexities of human existence and question whether the ordinary can coexist with the extraordinary. Ultimately, the artist's motivation behind this surreal artwork was to create a thought-provoking piece that encourages viewers to delve into the recesses of their own minds and emotions, to contemplate the intricate blend of chaos and order that defines the human experience.

Martine Mooijenkind, also known as Knutseltroep, is a self-taught collage artist and graphic designer from Gouda, The Netherlands. She creates surreal collages using vintage materials and digital techniques. She also works as a care attendant for the disabled . Her artworks have been published in various magazines and online platforms. Mooijenkind started making collages in 2010, when she discovered a box of old magazines in her attic.
