Collage: Acrylic, Aerosol, Laser Engraving, String on Wood.
This piece is from an ongoing body of assemblage work made from assorted collected wood pieces, which I slice into thin sticks. On most of the sticks there is then some geometric abstract laser engraving added. The sticks are then assembled with wooden dowels to connect to each other. Once the wooden assemblage is complete I tape a large single shape on the construction and carefully paint it a single flat color. The last element added is the string element which connects points on the assemblage detailing and outlining the primary painted shape.
I use the wood as the basic component as part of my ongoing flirtation with using abandoned or discarded materials in my work. Most of the wood from this piece was gathered here and there in the city of Amsterdam, NL. Once the wood is collected, I sand and treat the wood for texture and protection.
This piece is hung quite easily by resting the cross bar on it's wall side, on a single 30lb screw.
