ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A pile-up of typically Dutch house shapes and building materials. This piece was made especially for an exhibition called Heilige Huisjes – meaning literally ‘holy houses’. This is a Dutch expression that refers to firmly held beliefs in the permanency, and therefore validity or truth, of something. The work questions the permanency of any living environment we have made for ourselves, or even any civilization – and in this, architecture can be seen as symbolic of a civilization on multiple levels – since history has often proven otherwise
