About The Artwork

I've always admired the incredibly imaginative etchings from the 16th to 18th century. This is a study from a new series that combines these magical scenes from the past with contemporary imagery. A framed collage of rice paper on fine Belgian linen canvas, with gold and silver metallic inks and watercolors. The ink is blue and has the feeling of a chinoiserie or delft porcelain. The color painted around the vignette is a lustrous cream color that looks like mother of pearl. The gold and silver inks recall the illuminated manuscripts of the Renaissance. Thank you for looking.

Karen Clark uses oil, acrylic and collage to create pictorially hybrid compositions. Her art is shown at the Bellagio Hotel, in an upcoming HBO series and in private collections in Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, the US and more. She has been featured on on Artsy, the Huffington Post, CNN, and CBS and iShe has exhibited with Tracey Emin, Shepard Fairey, Ed Moses, Ray Caesar & FAILE. From Art Critic Shana Nys Dambrot, "Karen Clark avails herself of an eclectic set of mediums and materials, including but not limited to painting, drawing, digital collage, and printmaking. These she deploys in all possible combinations in the service of pictorially hybrid compositions in which she freely samples stylistic languages from gestural abstraction to the surreal, naturalistic, ultra-modern, and romantic -- inventively choreographing this gamut of choices into layered juxtapositions that are at once eerie and poetic, strange and familiar.
