Art Description

Collage: Fabric, Enamel, Acrylic on Canvas, Wood.

I paint topographies that do not represent an actual location. My work leads the viewer on a path beyond maps, grids, and lines, into an unknowable geography where surface, strata, and landforms evoke a sense of an imaginary place. From my series titled Random Lands; these fictional roads and landscapes are painted and reassembled with various materials. Borders and boundaries are constantly in flux, shifting along political lines and in response to changes in international relations. Conflicts, migration, identity, social and cultural viewpoints are wrapped up in a way of re-orienting our view of the world. I strive to explore the nature of mapping and the fluidity and shifts through this series.
