When materials do not lend themselves to society's contemporary plans, Lisa Tilley appropriates and refurbishes them, developing new products which are fashionable and retro in appearance yet compliant with the demands of modern day living. uoldbag's rustic simplicity belies a design of contemporary sophistication. Lisa Tilley, a trained textile designer, founded uoldbag! in 2009. Her workshop has been based in Bedford since 2007. The ethos is 'vintage' and reused: old magazines, illustrations, photographs vintage suitcases, bags and luggage and reclaimed materials are utilised into 'new' products. Inspired by vintage materials, illustrations and photographs each bag is skillfully produced. Some include imagery that has been painstakingly cut out and applied using the art of decoupage, others hand embroidery that has been carefully sewn over beautiful and delicate crochet patterned paper. All are made with materials which have had a previous life: magazines, newspapers and home furnishings such as retro print curtains and pillow cases displaying beautiful forestry hand embroidered scenes. Even tea cosie's featuring a myriad of animals such as "˜ginger cats' are made into evening clutch bags. The products are multi-functional: some regard them as decorative art, others as fashion or interior accessories. I regard them as functional art. uoldbag! accepts many wide ranging briefs from private clients to well known high street shops, creating highly individual pieces that are incorporated into a larger spectrum unique to any project. Commissions are always welcome. Yob's products have been stocked within Paul Smith stores internationally and were featured there for Milan and Paris fashion week 2010. Yob! also shows at fairs such as "˜Origin' London, "˜MADE' Brighton and "˜Selvedge Fairs'. uoldbag! was recently declared number one of the ten best vintage style suitcases to buy now by The Times Online, topping other renowned suitcase manufacturers such as Globe Trotter and Tanner Krolle. uoldbag! always aims to meet any clients' specific requests. All products are singular, bespoke and unique. About the founder Lisa Tilley was born in Peterborough, but grew up in Bedford. She completed a BA Hons at The Nottingham Trent School of Art & Design. Lisa has won several awards including Honda Made in Britain and the Bradford Textile Society Competition.
