you wake to the sound of the water hitting the shore
the sun slowly rises above the horizon
birds sing their morning songs
the smell of burnt wood and hotdogs still clings to your hair and clothes
in the bottom of your sleeping bag the sand still scratches on your feet
the scent of fresh morning dew lingers in the air
drops of water are still sitting clinging onto the roof of your tent
you watch them slowly bead off
you take pleasure in knowing that there is no other place to be but right here
and slowly stretch your arms above your head and take in a deep breath

the laughter from the evening before rings in your ears
you recall the hot sweet sticky goo of the burnt marshmallow that you anxiously stuffed into your mouth
the warmth of the fire is still reminiscent on your cheeks
you envision the glow of the fire that danced across all the faces as they sat in a ring around the hearth
you absently watched the fire
you observed the embers spark and fizzle their way up into the navy abyss
leading you to the stars that hung in the sky like fireflies stuck in the infinite spans of velvety darkness

you roll over to find the skin on your shoulders stings
the sun was hot
the day was beautiful
the water calm
the sand was cool when you buried your feet in that morning
that same sand still sticks between your toes
reminiscent of a good day
a summer day
well spent
