The press release of Anna Taguti The range of the artist’s creative capacities is very broad: painting, mosaics, unique graphics (hand-made), hand-made serigraphy, a new know-how of working with photographed materials and drawing. This range of capacities is not just a game of mind or experimental interest. Anna Taguti’s works are marked with the urge to make use of the centuries-old experience of the Oriental and Occidental cultures. The combination of images, philosophies, colors of different cultures, as it has survived through the history, is flesh and blood of her work. Time is an artist, creating non-stop through the centuries. Anna Taguti attempts to save, to this freeze creative action of Time; she aims to catch the intricate interaction of cultures. This is why the methods she employs differ so much. In my work I try to discover the inner connection and energy, which are collected by the historic material through the ages. This energy is a result of a colossal work of Time, in which there is more losses and grief. For example, Time has destroyed the Library of Alexandria and saved the buried ruins of Pompeii under the Lava of Vesuvius. In the historic perspective our life seems like a palimpsest, or in another word, a Text, which itself is always at risk of being erased. Fragmentariness corresponds with the “ragged mentality” of a modern man. Gaps, losses are as self-efficient as elements of the Image. I actively use this method, in which the fragment is no less meaningful, than the Whole. Aleathority (from Latin “alea” – game of dice), unreliability – is an aesthetic principle. I work with different materials. It can be a different kind of print, a photography, a drawing, a collage – all of them are subordinate to one goal, one desire – to understand where and how chance or fortuity becomes a pattern, a rule.
