Maria Vetkalova is a Contemporary Collage Artist, most known for creating and selling unique artworks using specifically VOGUE magazines as a medium. Born, raised and currently based in Moscow, her particular visual language of evocative works is inspired by nature, organic shapes, and looks like a floral pattern. 'I love to create patterns that tell stories through hand-cut elements of VOGUE. Their details, textures, smooth lines are like music for me - a universal language that is able to connect with like-minded souls all over the world without saying a word.' Why VOGUE? "I wanted to be inspired by something that was already inspiring, to take something of a value, something that’s out of ordinary, and add something beautiful to it.” For me VOGUE - is a form of artwork itself, best in terms of artistic and technical quality. Each page is like a moment in time in history of a certain era, contemporary culture, modern fashion. Medium itself becomes an inspiration and turns to be more than just a color palette. Recycled Beauty. Each element of collage is made out of hand cut pages from Vogue magazine. In a digital era paper magazines might be gone in near future. I wanted to save the creative energy that was already put into magazine, recycle it, transform, give it a new life and share contemporary Russian culture in a form of artwork with viewers all over the world.
