ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is my mother with her dog. I was struck by her shape and value contrast between her dark clothing and the brightly lit interior of the space. As I sat to draw her, her dog instinctively came over to her. I made a detailed drawing from life before returning to my studio to make the collage. I often notate dark and light contrast in my drawings, leaving color to be decided later.
