About The Artwork

Camouflage is a series of drawings built through the psoriasis clinical picture. Psoriasis is a skin disease, associated with auto-immune disorder, which by mistake, attacks, inflames and destroys healthy tissue. Its main symptom is the appearance of red spots patterns covered with traces of white skin flaking and cover certain areas of skin throughout the body. I'm interested in the plasticity of the disease; the color, the texture, the shape, its volume and the visual effect it generates on the surface of the skin. As of its biological construction, I transpose the effects (peeling and traces) of it, on the skin, to the paper as a work surface. From there I explore techniques such as pointillism and embroidery. I accumulate layers of paper of different textures and color palettes, corresponding to different types of skin and with needles of different thicknesses; I hammer the surfaces of each paper until it generates gaps that partially disintegrates each layer, creating glazes, craters and scratches that reveal the inside of the piece. Through the idea of the disease’s repetition, I explore techniques, such as thread and wool embroidery and their way of construction; drawings with fibers on generic templates that are repeated to form modules inspired by nature. These embroideries sutured and integrate anew the paper remains disfiguring textures and technique limits. The embroideries extend until they cross the paper with lines that intersect with the different layers and draw planes creating depth effects. The act of marking surfaces by force, with the needle and suture it with embroidery, generates a simulated wound that I integrate into the paper in search of reconfiguring the landscape of the sensible.

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

At this moment my work is transitioning from the figurative to the abstract. I find it interesting how the eyes can transform reality to new forms and interpretations. My research has always been related to the body and the life inside it. I feel curios about what I can’t see; emotions, blood flow, and how these are manifested and revealed. I try to give a new significance to these manifestations making them visible, transforming them into a space, a form or an image by using textile. This material weaved and embroidered, for me, is like a ritual act, because when I am weaving, drawing or embroidering, is when I feel that the work is in its deepest state and I can recover something of that lost body.
