ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Experience the captivating beauty of Africa with this stunning painting by Jan Keteleer: African women in a boat. Perfectly capturing the essence of life and the serene atmosphere of the African landscape, Keteleer skillfully brings to life the daily struggles and simple joys of local fishermen. Using a figurative expressionist style, Keteleer's brushstrokes convey the palpable energy and emotions of these hardworking individuals. With each stroke of acrylic paint on panel, he transports you to the tranquil waters of Africa, where men and women tirelessly weave their nets and cast them into the sea, river, or lake in search of their daily meal. This piece not only immerses you in the world of these fishermen but also invites you to reflect deeply upon the fundamental aspects of life. In a world that seems to constantly chase after more and more, this painting serves as a poignant reminder to pause, to appreciate the simplicity, and to cherish the experiences that truly matter. Crafted using a combination of acrylic and ink on a panel, this painting is a testament to Keteleer's skill and artistry. With meticulous attention to detail and a mastery of colors, he brings to life the vibrant hues of the African landscape, from the warm earthy tones to the shimmering blues of the water. To enhance its aesthetic appeal, this captivating artwork is framed in a sleek black wooden frame. Not only does this frame provide a finishing touch, but it also adds a touch of sophistication to your space, allowing the painting to seamlessly blend into any art collection or home decor.

From his interests in both classical art and modern / contemporary art, Belgian artist Jan Keteleer (JanKé) works with different styles. Ancient art is one of his interests, but you can also find examples of his work in pop art and impressionism. If you browse through Jan Keteleer's portfolio, you will find beautiful nature scenes, pictures of animals or pop art-based nudes. After years working in commercial photography, he turned his interest to artistic black and white photography. Projects such as Speecless, Silent Dialogues and Roots with Taboo brought him fame. He was inspired by the problems of the multicultural society in Belgium, the coexistence of different national and ethnic groups, the issue of the language barrier and the lack of dialogue between the "old" (the native population) and the "new" Belgians (the immigrants). JanKé attaches great importance to the social significance of his works and integrates them into the context of public space (stations, airports and public transport), prompting the viewer to react and reflect. His projects have received the support of the organization Sprakeloos, which aims to use art to provoke discussion on social issues. He had numerous exhibitions in Belgium (in Antwerp, Bruges, Lier, Leuven and Ghent), in the U.S. (in Dallas and San Francisco) and in Poland (in Krakow).
