Bryan is a polymath- part designer, inventor, and artist. Bryan has created and designed award-winning new products for many corporations. Bryan has been named as inventor and designer in 35+ patents filed in 80 countries worldwide. Bryan has also received over a dozen industry awards for his innovations including an IDSA gold award for the Snakelight Flexible Flashlight. The Snakelight was selected by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum for its permanent design collection. Bryan holds a B.S. Industrial Design from the University of Bridgeport where he also studied figure drawing and perspective under Jack Kovatch. Mr. Kovatch was a lead animator at Disney studios during the creation of 1001 Dalmatians. Bryan has also studied color theory and black and white photography. Largely a self-taught artist, Bryan started painting and drawing at a very young age working primarily in watercolor. He started painting with more commitment in 1985 while living in Cambridge, Mass. Artistic statement. Exploration, personal reflection and discovery are what I seek in all things I enjoy, including art. I want the art I create to provoke, move, or disrupt the viewer- to transport them, at least momentarily, to a new or perhaps forgotten and deeply felt place. To know this is to know me. I want my art to confront the viewer and raise questions, not answer them. I believe there should be a mystery to my art that encourages a long arc of exploration, personal reflection, and discovery. Therefore, it is important to me to only gently narrate what I have in mind. It is more important to me that a viewer finds their own journey into, and out of my artwork, based upon their unique experiences and needs. In my art, I measure my success when I have refined a piece by stripping out unnecessary elements, colors and marks and perhaps more importantly- thinking less and feeling more, until I find the most evocative and authentic expression of the idea. This is my artistic way. I have studied Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Abstract-Expressionism and Minimalism with great enthusiasm. My work may overlap several art genres at once as I am less concerned with traditional labels and more concerned with ideas.
