About The Artwork

The story behind this work: Occasionally, my friends jest with me, claiming that I've been infected by having lived for many years on the same street where the renowned Belgian surrealist René Magritte spent several years of his life. Indeed, it is merely a few doors away, and I often find myself gazing up at the sky, spotting the same small clouds he likely observed. However, René Magritte has little to do with the works in this series. They stem from a completely different origin story, which is as follows: Years ago, I collaborated with the wonderful Rita Ansone to photograph a whimsical series. Surreal. Real images imbued with surreal content. Parts of this series are displayed here: https://photo.siebeneicher.com/portfolio/chasing-stars/ Those who know me are aware that I have been engaged with generative AI and 3-D modelling for years. Part of this involves transformation—from image to text and text to image. We recently conducted a fascinating experiment: we had AI identify what was visible in the surreal-seeming images and then used these descriptions to generate new images. This playful exploration led us to delve deeper into the question of what reality is. What is surreal, and where does truth lie? Consider the initial scenario: real images of surreal situations; why not surreal images of real situations? AI recognises image content, creates a description, and transforms it back into images. The images generated by the AI were closer to reality than the actual photographs taken with a real camera. Surreal! This is a part of the genesis of this series.

Photography and Digital Art: Revealing the Unseen Claus Siebeneicher's artistic journey defies conventionality, unfolding as a multifaceted exploration of visibility. From early experiments with LASER illumination to politically charged renderings in the '90s, and an extensive repertoire of documentary, travel, and abstract photography, his work spans a diverse range of mediums and themes. At the core of Siebeneicher's oeuvre lies the profound exploration of "visibility," wherein he unveils the hidden aspects of our world. Through a fusion of experimental photography, evocative portraiture, and cutting-edge installations, he adeptly exposes otherwise concealed processes and perspectives. Siebeneicher's series, "Time Transformation," embodies this ethos, portraying time as a tangible dimension where movement and disappearance intertwine. Similarly, his installation "Farsighted" serves as a poignant reflection of our contemporary world, offering viewers insights into hidden truths and societal moods. In his recent venture, "EuropasFarben," Siebeneicher embarks on a journey across Europe, delving into the essence of beauty in nature. Through meticulous exploration of locations and colors, he unveils the intrinsic allure of natural gradients, transcending the confines of objects. Through a synthesis of technique and perception, Claus Siebeneicher's work transcends the visible, inviting audiences to ponder the unseen facets of our existence.
