ABOUT THE ARTWORK

GRAUMEISTER The Legend of Graumeister tells the recent history of Earth from the viewpoint of the highly civilised planet Avinroe, whose task it is to ensure the safety and ethical evolution of the Milky Way, and from the perspective of the nearby galaxy Ultima Felis, whose leopard-like inhabitants are respectfully called «Graumeister» Graumeister are spacerunners - they need no equipment to travel in space and move faster than light. They can communicate telepathically with all living beings in the universe and play a leading role in the organization of the cosmos. In a figurative sense, however, Graumeister also stands as a metaphor for the human brain, whose capacity, once it is fully utilized, will open up new evolutionary perspectives for the human race - in the scientific and cosmological area but, far more importantly, in a moral and spiritual sense. EDITION This artwork is a digital print on premium photo paper. It comes as a limited, dated and signed edition of 10 ex.

Born 1950 in Rotterdam NL. Of french-swiss nationality. Lives and works in the South of France. Essentially an abstract painter and sculptor, whose work is mainly to be found in arte povera and minimal art collections, the artists second area of interest is satirical drawing and collage in a realistic or surrealistic style. ++++++++TRANS'CEREBRAL++++++++The works of the transCerebral series are à critical and satirical reflexion on the ambiguous role of the brain in our society. Far from being the simple instrument of rationality it is supposed to be, our brain often acts as undercover agent at the service of our most sordid instincts, sneakily substituting rationality by rationalisation. Metaphor of the schizophrenic condition of human intelligence, these images denounce the alarming discrepancy between our cognitive intelligence and our incapacity to transfer this knowledge into our social life. On the one hand, we are able to fly to Mars, to perform complex medical operations and to construct skyscrapers, bridges and any amount of lethal weapons. On the other hand, we are unable to master even our most basic instincts, and we seem to be wholly incapable to put our technical intelligence to intelligent, e.g. constructive use. This disparity may well prove the main difficulty in the merging of biological and artificial intelligence. Given the nano-mechanical means, it will doubtlessly be possible to boost our cognitive intelligence. But this operation might at the same time increase the gulf between technical and what we may call evolutionary intelligence - the capacity to use our trained brains to better the conditions of life on our planet - and leave us with even more highly knowledgeable and particularly destructive lunatics.
