This is the second piece of work, inspired by the film ‘Titanic’ (1997) which stars Leonardo DiCaprio (aka ‘Jack’ Dawson) and Kate Winslet (aka ‘Rose’ Dewitt Bukater). (see the previous work Disasters of War: RMS Olympic v RMS Titanic). It is about a Romantic discovery between Jack & Rose, on the fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic on the 15th April 1912 from Southampton, UK to New York, USA.

This work is a piece of Conceptual Art. Conceptual Art was first derived in the 1960s by Sol LeWitt and art is a 'concept' rather than a material object. Within his work the work follows a sequence of lines, vertical, horizontal, or diagonal, that is repeated. This sequence can be repeated by anyone if given a set of instructions by the Artist (in the past Sol LeWitt has published a set of instructions to make a piece of his Art). More recently, Conceptual Art has lost this basic principle and is almost applied to any Modern artwork. Within my work, I am reverting to these basic principles, of using a repetitive grid of vertical lines (vertical lines of Stripes of USA Flag), similarly vertical text (taken from four-letter words from films), the same colours of Pop Art, Sky & Water (these are standard colours that come pre-installed within Illustrator and have not been modified by the Artist). Given these, it is possible for anyone to recreate this piece of work.

This is a Conceptual piece of work, which follows a sequence of four letter words, superimposed on the USA Flag. It contains a series of 13 vertical stripes, of falling words, just similar to falling rain & snow, and the Stars of Society arranged into a Heart similar between the ‘Heart of the Ocean’ diamond and the Romantic heart between Jack & Rose. The Stars have been superimposed with the USA States, from the journey Jack makes, from his transfer from 3rd class to 1st class, where he meets famous/rich people from different Stars of Society in the States of America, such as Benjamin Guggenheim (Guggenheim Museum) from NY, Isidor Strains (founder of Macy's Department Store) from NY, Margaret 'Molly' Brown from CO etc.

The title comes from the ‘Heart of the Ocean’ diamond, which is crystal clear and resembles ice, cold and blue. The last part of the title, ‘...it’s raining ice, Sir!’ comes from when the Titanic hits the iceberg in the Atlantic and Ice is thrown on the deck, similar to it raining snow and hailstones. The lower image is an image of Rose holding onto Jack, both with ice-cold water, just as she about to release him into the water.

UK-based Vinci Art is a Conceptual Artist and Post Pop Artist best known for his abstract use of repetitive vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines superimposed with four-letter words forming a playable word search “The idea or concept [Conceptual Art] is the most important aspect of the work, and I use any medium [painting, digital, printmaking or sculpture] to convey the idea to the piece of Fine Art” The Artist is interested in the interaction between opposites, yin & yang, war & peace, love & hate, rich & poor, and life & death. The Artist juxtaposes these contrasts with the innocent of Toys and Games used in our youth. His most recent body of work Style Series is influenced by De Stijl after Piet Mondrian [1872-1944]. De Stijl is Dutch for "The Style", also known as Neoplasticism was a Dutch art movement. De Stijl advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colour; they simplified visual compositions to vertical and horizontal, using only black, white, and primary colours. His previous body of work includes the "Berry Series" influenced by textiles and cloth of “Plaid” or tartan one of the most widely used patterns in history. The work used a combination of vertical stripes and horizontal stripes with transparency to the underlayer. The stripes follow a sequence or order from dark to light, known as Conceptual Art The previous body of work includes "Flags of the World" which communicates with viewers through linguistics, semiotics, and cryptography. The series includes English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, and American Flags superimposed with four-letter words of their respective language forming a playable word search from A to Z. His previous works include, "Retro Celebrity Stars", which is a homage to celebrities of our past from the films of the Hollywood Golden Era, to the present day. Every one of these individuals helped create the world we live in today, and though we know their names, their actual images might be fading from our memory. "Disasters of War", is a homage to Heroes and Villains from World War I & II, by the use of humorous and tongue-in-cheek language to explore the more serious issues of the past to the present day. Heroes and Villains are portrayed in life, death, and immortality by the use of toys of our innocent youth. The toys are used as a satirical look at the “Disasters of Wars” revealing shock and truths of war and violence in a playful way.
