About The Artwork

This piece goes with my most recent project of illustrating Emily Dickinson Poetry. This piece goes with the ever popular poem; Forever - is composed of Nows - Tis not a different time - Except for Infiniteness - And Latitude of Home - From this - experienced Here - Remove the Dates - to These - Let Months dissolve in further Months - And Years - exhale in Years - Without Debate - or Pause - Or Celebrated Days - No different Our Years would be From Anno Domini’s - Emily Dickinson Poem #624 Description, I am starting to think the poems pick me. I went to find the poem I had thought about for this drawing but this one wouldn’t budge from my consciousness. I realized how “in the moment”, and “Forever - is composed of Nows -,” I had been that day when I found this milkweed. And actually at the same time I found the milkweed I was talking to my mom on the phone, “And Latitude of Home-.” While I’m eating lunch that same day I was listening to NPR news from Alexa and at the very end of the segment, they announced the death of Homero Gómez González, who spent his life advocating against logging to protect the mountain tops where the Monarch Butterflies migrate to in Mexico. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/nation-world/story/2020-01-29/missing-monarch-b utterfly-activist-found-dead-in-mexico When I think of this man sacrificing his life in protection of our earth I really do see how, “Months dissolve in further Months -/ And Years - exhale in Years -,” and how “No different Our Years would be/ From Anno Domini’s -.” This piece is in Tribute to Homero Gomez Gonzalez

Pondell creates visual art from the inspiring poetry of Emily Dickinson, which can be seen on pondellart.com. Pondell's goal is to give the viewer what Emily has given her, a deeper awareness and new perspective on nature and life in general. Pondell graduated with a BFA from Denison University, then went on to study figurative drawing in Toledo, OH, Cincinnati, OH, and then Louisville, KY. Her concentration on the figure led to her passion for studying the top physical condition of Muhammad Ali. He is "the Greatest of All Time", and she was honored as a local artist to exhibit at the Muhammad Ali Center. That dedication and discipline to be the best at what you do by Muhammad Ali, is also a shared characteristic of Emily Dickinson. Although never famous in her lifetime she worked on her poetry like the world depended on it. She had confidence about her and her work that never subsided. Pondell hopes to do the same in art.
