ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Abstract digital painting, contemporary, expressionistic. The work presents the grown-over entrance to a shrine through which a rough outline of a god or goddess is seen. Ominous shapes on the lower right and middle prepare for entry into the sanctum. The left gate post coincides with a mighty tree, -- or is it the menacing power speaking out from the top at the upper left? In contrast to the shrine’s environment, the shrine’s inner is soothing, as if to convey encouragement not to be delayed in one’s worship by ominous occurrences and creatures pervading day-to-day life. The question of who is the power the shrines serves is left open. The complexity of the image technically derives from merging spontaneous movements of a dynamically changing brush with intuitively controlled algorithmic processes that determine the character of individual strokes and their color and direction. The work is printed on Hot Press Fine Art Smooth Bright White paper (an acid free, 100% cotton rag media with a bright textured finish, yielding an extremely high color gamut and black density). It is signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by a CoA, and shipped without hanging hardware, in a very sturdy tube protected against folding and puncture.

I am an experimental artist working in digital painting, graphics, abstract photography, animation, and textile design. My work is abstract in the sense that I invent shapes, colors, and textures without reference to representational concerns. Working entirely digitally, I consider the boundaries between domains of visual art as entirely permeable. Since I work with a large variety of tools aided by a mastery of controlled random, the outcome of my composition and design processes are unpredictable; their results often straddle the line between established visual-art categories.
