ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Abstract digital graphic in black and white, contemporary, surrealistic. This work is composed of irregular shapes and lines along a value spectrum from deep black to grayish white. Except for a square configuration in the middle, shapes appear as amorphous, conveying both fluidity and strength. The viewer discerns three parties in a fight to the death whose outcome is unpredictable. More specifically, the image pins a fluid force positioned at the upper right against a solid one in the lower left. Between both antagonists a third geometric force is positioned that functions as a mediator or third opponent. The overall impression of the viewer is likely to be one of ferocity and uncertain, wide-open outcome. The complexity of the image technically derives from merging spontaneous movements of a dynamically changing stylus with intuitively controlled algorithmic processes that determine the character of individual strokes, their texture and direction. The work is printed on Hot Press Fine Art Smooth Bright White paper (an acid free, 100% cotton rag media with a bright textured finish, yielding an extremely high color gamut and black density). It is signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by a CoA, and shipped without hanging hardware, in a very sturdy tube protected against folding and puncture.

I am an experimental artist working in digital painting, graphics, abstract photography, animation, and textile design. My work is abstract in the sense that I invent shapes, colors, and textures without reference to representational concerns. Working entirely digitally, I consider the boundaries between domains of visual art as entirely permeable. Since I work with a large variety of tools aided by a mastery of controlled random, the outcome of my composition and design processes are unpredictable; their results often straddle the line between established visual-art categories.
