Richard Yeomans is an artist currently living and working in Yorkshire. Deeply fascinated by the human impulse to create, and the effect of time on those creations, his work centres around the themes of Structures, Time and Stories, and seeks to uncover the hidden narratives and the connections between these elements. Through his art, Richard explores the complex interplay between human ingenuity and the natural world, and the ways in which the passage of time can transform and alter our creations. He is inspired by the resilience of the human spirit in the face of change and decay, and seeks to capture that sense of perseverance in his pieces. Richard's creative process is rooted in a willingness to experiment and take risks with techniques and materials. He draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, from ancient ruins and weathered buildings to the natural landscapes that surround us. Richard often uses industrial materials, such as OSB and plywood, which straddle the line between manmade and natural; in some cases, these materials have been recycled or leftover from other projects and have their own history. References towards other creative works are frequently found in Richard’s work as an intentional reminder of how the evolution of human creativity depends on the ability to build on what’s gone before. Ultimately, Richard's goal as an artist is to create work that is both visually striking and intellectually stimulating. Each piece is approached with a sense of curiosity and a desire to either uncover the existing histories of the subject matter and/or the materials used, or to create new ones. Richard is intensely aware of the transience of life and it’s this awareness that inspires him to leave his own mark and study the many ways in which humankind has, and continues to, say “We were here”.
