This work is a celebration of light: the lightness of the dance, the lightness of the floating frame, hung in the ever-changing light of the day - and the lightness of a well-endowed figure! I drew this dancer by hand, directly onto the raw glass, in ink, and load the wet ink image with bronze... when I cast the glass, the ink burns away and the bronze sinks into the molten glass, creating the permanent bronze-cast glass ingot you see here. Finally, I stain the glass, creating colour and emphasising the movement of the dance. This glass catches and amplifies the light, becoming an eye-catching and very unusual artwork. It's best hung in a window or lighted alcove, where it floats seemingly unsupported within its frame, emphasising the lightness and movement of the dancer. The frame is part of the artwork - it's constructed from a canvas-less stretcher frame using jeweller's fixings to draw attention to the artwork and to emphase its lightness. The artwork is supplied mounted and ready-to-hang.
