ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For shipping purposes the work will be glazed with Perspex to avoid damaging the artwork in transit. From the series of ongoing 'SratchCards'. This drawn Scalpel diptych on a pair of personal PV invitation cards from the group show 'Young British Abstraction' Silverstein Gallery 1995 1 (L)ine (C)ontinuum (D)iptych (S)ymmetry (M)irrored + (R)otated ... On the left panel, the layer of printed ink is scraped back to expose the original white of the card, creating a clean white 'negative' line. The process to create the 'positive' solid line of existing ink on the right panel is formed by meticulously scrapping all the surrounding ink off the card.

English b.1964 Lives & works in Nottingham UK. Resident artist at PRIMARY Nottingham ... Recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award. "... Marek Tobolewski'’s work continues to entrance and mystify... CiS is the most impressive show of Tobolewski’s I have ever seen ... his artistic practice seems to be a never-ceasing journey along a single path, continually striving for new insights and perfections." Andrew Cooper-NVA Ed Drawing underpins my practice, it deals within both the formal process of abstraction today and its historical continuity. The ongoing Continuum series of works are concerned with spatial portals held within symmetry and reflection, of rotated and mirrored linear forms. The linear ’Syms’ are continually evolving and endlessly being reinvented … “I return to existing works, adjust structures and refine each individual flow of a line in an attempt to hold a balance between movement and stillness.”
