Born and reared in Jerusalem, Israel, Avital Lang She arrived in Cape Town in 1996 and began working with the Jewish community there. She met her spouse while she was in Cape Town, and the two were wed at Home Affairs in 1999 before spending the next year in Israel. She has two children, ages 21 and 17. She wants to make a difference in the world and feels that every good deed has a cascading effect. Over the years, Avital has developed her skills in painting, drawing, and sculpture, and she now instructs her own students. After opening a prosperous gallery in Moulli Point where she displayed up-and-coming artists, Avital moved to Bo Kaap. Avital worked with adults and children to find their way to deal with sorrow and despair via art therapy since she believes that art plays a significant role in the healing process. She started a program in Pollsmoor Prison in 2010 and worked with both juvenile and adult convicts there. She also started a training centre at Goodwood Correctional Service for inmates who want to become artists and pick up new skills.
